PROVIDENCE—A man was sentenced Thursday to 40 years in prison in the killing a Massachusetts man during a drug deal turned robbery in Providence.
David Mello pleaded guilty earlier this year to second-degree murder and other charges for the death of Marc Quintal, of Fall River, in August 2007.
Prosecutors said Quintal drove to Providence for a drug deal and was fatally shot in the back by Mello after resisting a robbery attempt.
Superior Court Judge Robert Krause ordered Mello, 21, to serve 40 years at the state prison, followed by probation and a 10-year suspended jail sentence.
The judge told Mello he would be under court supervision until he was a “doddering old man.“
