FALL RIVER, Mass. - A Fall River man has been acquitted of murder in the death of a rival gang member.
Jurors in Fall River Superior Court took just a few hours on Wednesday to find Leonard Gonsalves not guilty of the March 2006 shooting death of Nathan Harrigan.
Prosecutors allege Gonsalves was affiliated with the Bloods gang, while the victim was a member of the Crips.
Defense attorney Ed Kelly told jurors that there were no fingerprints, DNA or any other hard evidence linking Gonsalves to the shooting.
He said most evidence came from one unreliable witness who kept changing his story.
But prosecutors say other witnesses described a man matching Gonsalves and that Gonsalves disappeared for three days following the shooting.
