SANDWICH, Mass.—A harbor seal managed to get into a trout pond at the Sandwich Fish Hatchery on Tuesday morning and snacked on fish for a couple of hours before it was spotted by hatchery employees.
Members of the Cape Cod Stranding Network speculate that the seal had to cross a miniature golf course, enter a tunnel under the highway, and follow a creek before it made its way to the hatchery.
The Stranding Network captured the 40-pound seal and released it off West Dennis Beach.
Hatchery employees believe this is the first such fish robbery conducted by a seal.
