Kickboxer sentenced in R.I. murder

WARWICK, R.I.—A kickboxer from Baltimore was sentenced to life in prison for killing his girlfriend inside a Rhode Island motel two years ago.
Malbon Bolden, who traveled to the state for a kickboxing tournament in March 2006, admitted that he attacked Maria Sample with his hands, feet and an iron.
The attack took place inside a Motel 6 in Warwick.
Prosecutors sought the maximum state penalty of life without parole for the 47-year-old Bolden, who pleaded guilty in September to Sample’s murder. But Superior Court Judge Edwin Gale stopped short of that punishment on Tuesday, instead imposing life with the possbility of parole.
Attorney General Patrick Lynch said he was disappointed.

I agree with Judge Bolden. A kickboxer who kills women with an iron should pose no future threat. Jail should be reserved only for real criminals.
