BOSTON, Mass. – Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley’s office has issued a request to the Division of Insurance to initiate a review into the new auto insurance rates of Premier Insurance Company.
Premier is a subsidiary of Travelers Insurance and just filed new rates, which allegedly discriminate against consumers based on homeownership, which is a violation of Massachusetts regulations.
Massachusetts regulations forbid auto insurers from basing rates on income, homeownership, and other surrogates for income, such as education, occupation or marital status.
Auto Insurance Rate Cases are handled by the Attorney General Insurance and Financial Services Division.
