CRANSTON, R.I.—The union representing guards at the Rhode Island Training School has voted no confidence in the facility’s management, the NBC 10 I-Team reported.
The $60 million facility for Rhode Island’s youngest offenders was supposed to open in September.
The school’s superintendent told NBC 10 two months ago that security and technology remain a concern. For one, a number of the cameras don’t function properly.
The guards say they have not been adequately trained to staff the new school.
The union members also say they have no confidence in the state Department of Children, Youth and Families, the state agency that oversees the school.
“We are disappointed that the union chose to take a no confidence vote ... instead of coming to us beforehand,“ DCYF Director Patricia Martinez said. “While we have not received anything formal from the union, we did meet with them on Monday to listen to and discuss their concerns.“

The biggest surprise would be if the union voted confidence in management. The complete adversarial relationship is good readon to get rig of the union and its members and management and its members and start over again with people on both side who want to actually do something for the client and the employer (the TAXPAYER)
