SCITUATE, R.I.—If you’re in the market for a wood pellet stove—good luck finding one.
At Frederickson Farm in Scituate, the only ones available are the display models.
“We probably won’t have any available until the latter part of January,“ said Pat Matteo of Frederickson Farm.
But that hasn’t stopped about 100 people from putting their names on waiting list.
“The demand I would say is at least 100 percent higher than it was last year,“ Matteo said.
He said the price of oil is driving the demand.
According to Matteo, heating your home with a pellet stove is a bargain compared to using oil.
“If you burned three tanks of oil over the course of the season, you’re looking at approximately $1,000 per tank,“ he said. “Three tons of pellets, you’re looking at $900.“

Im a Licensed Wood & Pellet stove Installer in RI with some VERY IMPORTANT INFO for consumers!!!!
Pellet Stoves are a good money saving Investment,But I do want to make everone aware,(Pellet stoves Don’t Work Without Power)if your Power Go’s Out Your Pellet stove Go’s out…
Mr. Matteo Should Also Know that in RI it is Required to have a Decorative Hearth Appliance installation license aswell as a Mechanical Permit & Inspection with your Local Town.
I really think Channel 10 News should Really Get the Proper Information out to the Consumers before Homeowners IMPROPERLY Install these appliances and houses start catching fire all over the state.
I am a Very Buzy small buissness the last think I need rite now is more work, But I felt as a Licensed Installer I should speak up and try to get the proper Info out to people.
Good luck to all those who want Alternitive & Emergency Heat Sorces!!!

The problem is now is not the time to purchase one of these. The price of the stove and pellets is going to make for a longer payback time.

News stories like this only serve to institute a panic and allow wood stove dealers to further increase their already over-inflated prices. Shame on Channel 10 for making this a news item.
