WARWICK, R.I.—With the goal of collecting some 40 pints of blood, WJAR 10 and 93.3 Coast – FM are sponsoring their annual holiday blood drive on Monday, Dec. 22, 2008 from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. in the Grand Ballroom of the Crown Plaza Hotel at the Crossings in Warwick.
Several on-air personalities, including Barbara Morse Silva, will join hundreds of blood donors, helping to assure that there is enough blood available during the holiday season.
The Rhode Island Blood Center is charged with collecting up to 280 pints a day to meet the needs of hospitalized patients in the community.
Holidays bring on additional challenges, as many donors are busy with holiday preparations. Blood needs, however, never take a holiday.
By reaching the 400 pint goal, donors will be helping some 1,200 individuals and their families since each pint of blood collected is split into three separate components.
Donors at the blood drive will receive a pound of Dunkin’ Donut coffee and be treated to sandwiches, courtesy of Jersey Mike’s Subs, and pizza from the Crowne Plaza.
This is a wonderful time to give the gift that can’t be bought!
For more information, or if you have questions about donor eligibility, call 401-453-8307, or visit Rhode Island Blood Center Web site.
