PROVIDENCE—The radio station B101 on Thursday flipped its format to 24-hour holiday music for the holiday season.
Program Director Chris Duggan said the format, “Christmas 101”, will include holiday favorites from Bing Crosby and Nat King Cole.
“With the economy and hard times affecting so many people in Southern New England we felt it was a good time to spread some cheer,“ he said. “Listener input was overwhelming to start holiday music now.“
B101 is owned and operated by Clear Channel Communications in Providence in conjunction with sister stations WHJY-FM, WSNE-FM and WWBB-FM.

Lighten up people! Where is your spirit? When Easter comes, yes, we should play Religious Music for a couple of months, also, to sooth the savage beast in people. We should embrace every opportunity to lift our spirits in these tumultuous times. Celebrate every holiday for the positive energy it will give you! Envision a better day and it will come!

Talk about pushing a season. Why not start to play Easter music? It is also almost Easter too. Guess which station I will NOT be listening to.

Well, okay then, try to picture yourself in a more conservative store without elevators, spending less money and enjoying the holiday more!

I feel the playing of Christmas Music from now until Christmas is uplifting and a wonderful way to lift spirits during these tumultuous times. It will bring us back to the true meaning of Christmas Spirit and away from the materialistic holiday that it has become.
