NBC 10 and Rhode Island Monthly are profiling the state's "Top Docs" for women. These are doctors who have been voted by their peers to be the best in their specialties.
WARWICK, R.I. -- When Dr. Nathalie Campbell isn't at Kent Hospital checking in on patients, she's down the road at her medical office.
Campbell is an endocrinologist.
"I deal a lot with diabetes, that's bread and butter, but we see a lot of thyroid. We do bone mineral abnormalities, osteoporosis, Paget's disease," Campbell said.
She said it's an exciting time to be in this field.
"We have just much more to offer patients in terms of treating their disease," Campbell said.
Campbell cited new ways to deliver insulin.
"And we have some newer insulins, as well. We have some new long-acting insulins," Campbell said.
She'll tell you she never even considered another specialty.
"I just love the field. I love the idea of hormones and how they affect different organ systems and, you know, in terms of getting people better, how we can treat them and get them to where they need to be. It's just a fascinating field," Campbell said.
The Toronto native has been practicing in Rhode Island for the past seven years. She said she was pleasantly surprised to be named a top endocrinologist for women in our area.
"It is a huge deal. It's a big deal for me, and I'm grateful. I don't do this all on my own, of course. I have a great staff that helps support me," Campbell said.
And what a support she is to her patients.
"I consider myself a good community doctor, and I love the patients. I love educating them and teaching them," Campbell said.
Campbell works out of Kent Hospital and is one of three top endocrinologists, according to Rhode Island Monthly. A complete listing of Top Docs can be found in the issue currently on newsstands.
