    Above and beyond the news we cover everyday for our viewers, NBC 10 is proud to be part of community outreach initiatives that strive to impact Southern New Englanders in positive ways.

    Together with Adoption Rhode Island, 10 Cares about find homes for local children waiting to be adopted. Every week, our Tuesday's Child report profiles a youngster hoping to find permanent placement.

    Together with the Rhode Island Blood Center, we hold multiple 10 Cares Blood Drives each year to help save lives.

    With the Salvation Army and Shaws, the 10 Cares Thanksgiving program feeds families most in need during the holidays. The 10 Cares Season of Giving telethon makes local children's dreams come true through the Make-a-Wish foundation.

    Together with Shred-It and the PawSox, the annual 10 Cares Great Shredding Event protects Southern New Englanders from identity theft right after tax season, when the need is greatest.

    10 Cares about placing abandoned pets in good local homes through a weekly "Place a Pet" segment on NBC 10 Weekend Sunrise.

    NBC 10 Cares about Honoring Achievements

    NBC 10 Cares about those organizations that are working tirelessly to better our communities.

    That is why 10 Cares about the Champions in Action program. Together with Citizens Bank, NBC 10 honors two deserving non-profits a year for their unique initiatives to improve the communities they serve. Among the many benefits of being named a Champion are on-air organization profiles and PSAs on NBC 10 and $35,000 in unrestricted funds provided by Citizens Bank.

    10 Cares about individuals who make a difference as well. In an effort to inspire volunteerism, 10 Cares about the Jefferson Awards. Together with the United Way, NBC 10 honors three ordinary people a year who do extraordinary things.

    And 10 Cares about our children's education. That's why 10 Cares about the Golden Apple program. Together with the Rhode Island Department of Education and Hasbro, NBC 10 honors an outstanding educator every week with a Golden Apple award.

    NBC 10 Cares about Connecting Non-Profits with the communities they serve

    NBC 10 Cares about connecting local non-profit organizations with our viewers. That is why we provide organizations direct access to the 10 Cares Community Calendar, our online list of upcoming events. Organizations can post their own events, making them instantly visible to www.turnto10.com users.

    10 Cares Community Calendar | Submit Your Event

    To provide even more exposure, a select number of non-profit events posted to the 10 Cares Community Calendar are selected for on-air promotion on the 10 Cares Weekend Planner during our weekend Sunrise newscasts.

    WJAR also donates thousands of dollars of airtime every year to non-profits, so that they can promote their events during commercial breaks. We call these public service announcements 10 Cares Calendars. WJAR produces the PSAs for selected organizations and they are hosted by NBC 10 News personalities.

    Finally, the 10 Cares Call Center directly connects organizations with NBC 10 viewers through a live phone bank during newscasts.
