PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) - U.S. Rep. David Cicilline is co-sponsoring bills designed to maintain low interest rates on student loans. Cicilline says the proposals would revamp the way student loan interest rates are calculated. He says the measures would help students avoid massive debts associated with the pursuit of advanced degrees.
WILLIAMSTOWN, Vt. (AP) - The League of Innovative Schools is a network of 56 schools in Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, Connecticut and Rhode Island working to improve their programs and share their ideas with other member schools. The teachers and administrators meet with other like-minded schools in regional meetings to exchange ideas about what has worked and what has failed and to build momentum for change.
STORRS, Conn. (AP) - The University of Connecticut is hosting a training session beginning tomorrow for New England educators. The program developed by the National Association of School Psychologists will be held at the Storrs campus. Schools across the country have been re-evaluating security after the Connecticut school massacre.
NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) - Newport resident Heather Abbott is being welcomed home today with a party at the Rosecliff mansion, attended by the governor and other officials. Abbott was injured in the Boston Marathon bombings while waiting in line to get into a restaurant. Doctors amputated part of her left leg.
